About Julián André Ortiz

Julián André Ortiz Ortiz is a multidisciplinary artist and curator based in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. His work is mostly focused around photography, painting, graphic arts, and sound art.
He was born on the Tuesday morning of june 6 of 2000, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
André considers himself a photographer since he got his first phone with a camera around 2012, in which he, and due to boredom, started playing with photo editing apps.
In 2016, and also due to boredom, he decided to expand his artistic abilities drawing with graphite pencils and ballpoint pen on a new sketchbook he was gifted.
He had abandoned making art for some months, but after a nervous breakdown in 2017 he went back to creating, starting subtly with illustration.
In 2018 he started a degree in psychology at Universidad de Puerto Rico Recinto de Río Piedras. After one year and a half, he transfered on January 2020 to Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico in Viejo San Juan. There he explored graphic design, printmaking, sculpture, sound art, filmmaking, and more about his passions for drawing, painting, and photography.
For various reasons including economic unstability and health issues, Andre dropped out of university on December of 2023. This marked the beginning of his career as an independent artist and curator.
