ARTIST STATEMENT
Through various mediums such as drawing, painting, graphic arts, photography, and sound art, I play with the results of the diverse combinations between these media. I consider each work of art an amulet charged with the intentions reflected upon during the creative process. Through these intentions, I shape the concept and purpose of the piece. Oil painting is the primary medium in my artistic practice, given its visual and conceptual versatility and its ancestral character. The reference image is also crucial to the creation of my work, as I draw on photographic documentation of my daily life as an artist. As a Caribbean person, photography helps me capture those moments that quickly slip away due to our fast-paced lifestyles. My transdisciplinary creative process arises from a need for meditation that provokes a transcendence of the merely intellectual, toward a spiritual space. I also leave room for ignorance or the absence of purpose and meaning, as I find great value in the unknown or the intuitive. I believe that a work of art can reveal itself during a process of automatic creation, which opens up space for experimentation and, consequently, the achievement of interesting and unexpected results. This is why I find myself integrating contemporary media such as photography, sound art, and digital technology in general into my creative process, because it's my method of connecting tradition with the present.
